Essential Travel Information for Palau

VISA and Entry Requirements
  • Entry Forms: All travellers must complete the Palau Entry Form within 72 hours of arrival. Upon completion, a QR code will be issued, which must be presented at immigration. Only one form is required per family or single traveller.

Immigration Requirements

When travelling to Palau, visitors may be required to provide the following during check-in or at the port of entry:

  • Sufficient Funds: Visitors may need to provide evidence that they can financially support themselves during their stay. Proof of USD$200 in cash per person per week of stay is required (e.g., USD$600 for a three-week stay). Credit or debit cards are not accepted. Ensure you have the necessary cash to avoid delays.
  • Proof of Accommodation: Travellers must present accommodation documentation, such as hotel vouchers or booking confirmations.

Language & Communication
  • Official Languages: Palauan and English are the two official languages of Palau.
    English is widely spoken, making it easy for visitors to communicate during their stay.
  • Staying Connected: Prepaid SIM cards are available in Palau, though international roaming is limited to a few countries. Solitude Liveaboards offers Starlink satellite internet onboard. Adjust device settings to conserve data
Currency & Payments
  • Official Currency: Palau uses the US Dollar (USD).
  • Payments:
    • Credit cards (Visa and Mastercard) are widely accepted. Note that AMEX and Diners Club cards are not accepted.
    • Cash in USD is preferred for smaller establishments or local transactions.
  • Currency Exchange:
    • Exchange cash at international airports or withdraw USD from local ATMs.
Climate and Water Temperature
  • Climate: Palau has a tropical climate with an average temperature of 27°C (82°F) year-round. Rainfall is common, especially between June and October, but quick showers can happen at any time.
  • Water Temperature: Ocean temperatures range from 26°C to 29°C (78°F to 84°F). A 3mm wetsuit is generally sufficient, but a 5mm suit is recommended for extended dives during cooler months (November to February).
Duty-Free & Customs

Allowances

  • 2 litres of alcoholic beverages (travellers must be aged 21 or older for alcohol).
  • One open pack of cigarettes or 15g of loose tobacco (no allowance for travellers under 21).
  • Personal goods valued up to USD 1,000, including souvenirs or gifts from friends and relatives.

Prohibited Items

To ensure a smooth journey, avoid bringing:

  • Firearms, ammunition, weapons, explosives, fireworks, or hazardous items of any kind.
  • Counterfeit or altered banknotes or securities.
  • Narcotic drugs, stimulants, marijuana.
  • Vapes and e-cigarettes (strictly prohibited; surrender upon arrival to avoid fines).

  • Prescription and non-prescription drugs.
  • Protected endangered animals and plants, or their products.
  • Live animals and plants, meat, seeds, vegetables, fruits, and related products.

  • Authorisation Required: Written approval from the Palau National Aviation Administration is mandatory for operating drones or aerial devices in Palau. For authorisation, visit Drone Registration Guidelines.
