Essential Travel Information for Indonesia

VISA and Entry Requirements
  • Travellers from 87 countries are eligible for a Visa on Arrival (VOA), granting a 30-day stay in Indonesia. To enter the country, all travellers must hold a passport with at least six (6) months of validity remaining from the date of arrival.   • The VOA costs IDR 500,000 and can be paid in cash (IDR/USD) or with a credit card (with a 2% fee). An e-VOA is also available for pre-application online (e-VOA Site).
  • ASEAN citizens receive a complimentary VOA.
  • Complete the Health Declaration Form before arrival (Health Declaration Form).
Language & Communication
  • Official Languages: The primary language is Indonesian, but English is widely understood and used in tourist areas.
  • Staying Connected: Prepaid Telkomsel SIM cards are recommended and are readily available upon arrival. Solitude Liveaboards and Resorts offers Starlink satellite internet. Adjust device settings to conserve data.
Currency & Payments
  • Official Currency: Currency: The official currency is the Indonesian Rupiah (IDR).
  • Payments:
    • IDR cash is preferred for local purchases.
    • Credit cards (Visa/Mastercard only) are accepted onboard Solitude Adventurer, Solitude Lembeh Resort and major establishments. A facility fee applies for card payments.
Climate and Water Temperature
  • Climate: Indonesia has a tropical climate with an annual average temperature of 27°C (82°F).
  • Rainfall patterns vary across Indonesia’s renowned dive destinations:
    • Lembeh: Frequent rainfall occurs between December and February.
    • Raja Ampat: Expect frequent rain from June to August.
    • Komodo: Rain is most common between December and February.
    • Ambon: Rainfall is frequent from May to August.
    • Maumere: Frequent rain typically occurs between December and February.
  • Water Temperature: Ranges between 27°C to 30°C (81°F to 86°F), with thermoclines. A 3mm wetsuit is sufficient, though a 5mm suit is suggested for multiple dives or cooler months (November to February).
Duty-Free & Customs

Allowances

  • 1 litre of alcohol per adult.
  • 200 cigarettes, 25 cigars, or 100g of tobacco.

Prohibited Items

  • Firearms, ammunition, explosives, hazardous items.
  • Narcotic drugs, counterfeit goods, or restricted wildlife products.

  • Approval is required for operating drones. Check regulations via the Ministry of Transportation or the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (Drone Information).

    • Ambon (Banda Sea): Transfers to/from Pattimura Airport (IATA: AMQ) are available. Guests should arrive by 08:00 for embarkation starting at 06:00​.
    • Labuan Bajo (Komodo): Transfers to/from Komodo Airport (IATA: LBJ) are available. Guests should arrive by 08:00 for embarkation starting at 06:00​.
    • Maumere: Transfers to/from Frans Xavier Seda Airport (IATA: MOF) are available. Guests should arrive by 08:00 for embarkation starting at 06:00​.
    • Sorong (Raja Ampat): Transfers to/from Domine Eduard Osok Airport (IATA: SOQ) are available. Guests should arrive by 08:00 for embarkation starting at 06:00​.
  • For Solitude Lembeh Resort:
    • Transfers to/from Sam Ratulangi International Airport (IATA: MDC, Manado) can be arranged. Guests are advised to share their arrival details with the reservations team in advance to ensure a seamless transfer experience.
  • Packing Advice: Carry light clothing suitable for a tropical climate. If diving, pack or rent appropriate wetsuits as needed. Check luggage restrictions if transiting through other cities in Indonesia.
